Kim Andreas Kristiansen, the man charged with killing his step-father in Øyer, has appeared in court in Norway on Monday after being extradited from Holland.

The 23-year-old was represented by his lawyer Geir Lippestad, who also represents Anders Behring Breivik. Lippestad has requested a public hearing after police had asked for a closed court.

At the open court meeting in Gjøvik, south-east Norway, Kristiansen did not resist the large amount of media attention and press photography around him.

The court will decide whether to grant a police request to keep the suspect in jail for four weeks. Two of those weeks will be without the right of receiving letters or visits.

The case was to be originally held in South-Gudbrandsdal district court in Lillehammer. It was moved to Gjøvik to accommodate members of the public and the judges in light of the high-profile of the case.

Kristiansen is charged with murdering his stepfather, Bjarte Hansen, after the 58-year-old's remains were found in a campfire in the woods at Hafjell, Oppland, on 14th August.

The police brought the 23-year-old back to Norway from Holland on Friday after an 11-day manhunt.

Kristiansen has admitted he was present in the apartment he shared with his step-father in Øyer on the day of the murder, but denies murder.

Lippestad said to NTB on Saturday: “[Kristiansen] has admitted he was present and that no one else was present on the night in question.”
