Woman accuses nude selfies politician of lying
The case of Geri Müller, the federal MP from Aargau and town mayor of Baden who sent nude selfies to a woman from his office, has taken another turn after she accused him of lying.
Müller told a press conference on Tuesday he was ashamed of what he had done and explained he had a “virtual relationship” with the 33-year-old woman but was never her lover.
The Green party politician said he decided to put an end to the relationship when the woman became obsessed and began bombarding him with 30 sms a day before threatening to contact the media and then saying she wanted to commit suicide.
But the woman in question, a high school teacher from Bienne, disputed Müller’s version of events in the affair dubbed “GeriGate” by Swiss media.
She told the Basler Zeitung newspaper that it was he who was an “obsessed maniac” in the relationship, which began with an exchange on Facebook.
Müller spent four or five hours a night in exchanges with her, insisting that she send nude pictures of herself to him after he sent nude selfies to her, the teacher said.
She told TV station TeleZuri that contrary to what Müller said their relationship was physical and that they had met often.
She said she was not a prude and that the nude photos of the politician did not bother her — it was a private matter.
The woman said she never threatened to send incriminating photos to the media until Müller tried to have her phone seized.
Three political parties in Baden have demanded that Müller resign, but local members of the Green party supported the politician, who stepped aside temporarily as mayor of the town of 18,000.
Müller’s lawyer declared at a press conference on Tuesday that the politician had done nothing illegal.
The MP, separated from his wife with three children but reportedly in a relationship with yet another woman, acknowledged on an SRF TV chat show aired on Tuesday night that he had made a mistake.
But he said in the end the issue was just about him showing his “privates” (he used the German slang, pimmel) in a public place.
He said he wanted to continue in office but wanted to ensure that he had the trust of the people.
