As another hot and muggy weekend approaches, with temperatures of 30 degrees forecast for most of the country, a new survey shows that Austrians love the summer sun and wearing skimpy outfits but hate being bitten by mosquitoes.

Linz-based research institute ‘market’ surveyed 400 people, aged 15 and over. 72 percent said mosquitoes took the fun out of summer. The pesky insects have been particularly bad this year after a wet spring.

69 percent said they found other people’s sweat unpleasant, and around the same amount said they hated arriving at work in the summer dripping with sweat.

64 percent complained that they slept badly because of the heat. And 60 percent said they were afraid of catching a cold after being subjected to freezing air conditioning.

Others complained about summer traffic jams on the motorways and holiday flight delays.

Some responded to the survey by saying that they weren’t happy on holiday because they didn’t think they looked good in their swimsuit or bikini.

Other gripes included a lack of interest from their partner in sex because of the heat, that their partner was too busy looking at other scantily clad people, that they dressed too sexily, or boasted about being a barbecue expert.

However an overwhelming percent, 97, unsurprisingly said that they loved summer because they could laze in the sun on their balcony, terrace or garden. People appreciated being able to spend more time with their family outdoors, long evenings after work, barbecuing, drinking a glass of wine on a balmy evening with friends, and going for a swim.

60 percent said they loved to wear summer outfits which made them feel sexy and 55 percent said they enjoyed seeing their partner in sexy summer clothes.

42 percent of men said they enjoyed the opportunity of being able to see more topless women in the summer. 24 percent said they stuck to a summer diet and 17 percent said they enjoyed indulging in a holiday romance whilst on vacation.

The survey was carried out in mid-July -  after temperatures hit 30-degrees in Austria.
