From September 1st all forms of smoking, including electrical cigarettes, will be prohibited in all Norwegian railway stations and on platforms.

Jernbaneverket, the Norwegian government’s department for railway services, informed NTB that “Smoking not allowed” signs will be visible from that date and that all the current ashtrays will be removed from stations.

Head of marketing for Jernbaneverket, Cecilie Pindsle, said: “Travellers and visitors are encouraged to keep the railway stations and platforms smoke-free. Wherever there are loudspeaker services, regular announcements will remind people about the new smoking ban.”

Jernbaneverket told NTB all the railway companies have been informed about the new regulations and the companies are satisfied with the smoking prohibition.
