The 40-year-old man was hiking in a group with five companions near the Lasörlinghütte in Mullitztal in the municipality of Virgen, when he lost his footing on wet terrain.

At 11 a.m., the party was at around 2600 metres, heading in the direction of the New Reichenberger cottage in St. Jacob.

Emergency services were deployed, and a rescue helicopter used a rope system to winch him from the mountain, and then he was taken to the hospital in Klagenfurt.
