Four of the 11 members of an Indian handball team that disappeared on Saturday in northern Jutland were detained by police on Sunday evening in the Copenhagen area.

Police found the four young men near a Sikh centre in Vanløse. According to media reports, the four Indians are being detained for lacking proper identification and are being questioned by Copenhagen Police.

“Their English language skills aren’t particularly good, so we will need to see if we need to bring in a translator,” Copenhagen Police spokesman Lars Westerweel told Ritzau.

North Jutland Police, who initiated the search for the teenagers after they were reported missing, said that the remaining seven handball players are likely to be found soon.

“Copenhagen Police have detained four of them, and signs point to the rest of them being close by, since they were seen running from the scene,” North Jutland Police spokesman Henrik Beck told Politiken.

North Jutland Police said that the young men had not committed any illegal actions and have valid visas until July 16th.

Since they were first reported missing on Saturday, police have slightly adjusted the ages of the handball players, saying that one is 13 years old, another is 20, and the rest are between the ages of 14 and 16.

The coaches of the Indian handball team, which was in Denmark to participate in an international tournament, returned to India earlier on Sunday without the players.
