Her parents now face charges of mistreatment and instigating her death after police found a suicide note accusing them of causing her distress, La Stampa reported.

The note, reportedly “filled with despair”, was found in her bag after she jumped from the roof of her grammar school’s building in Forlì on June 17th.

In it, she wrote about the prohibitions her parents had placed on her, including refusing to let her go to China to study, the newspaper said.

Investigators also reportedly found a voicemail reaffirming the girl’s distress as well as other written evidence in her bedroom.

Her father, a freelance professional and her mother, a teacher, are being investigated for mistreatment within the family and instigating the suicide.

There have been several suicides among young Italians in recent months. In April, a 21-year-old student killed himself after jumping from a building at the University of Padua in the northern Italian region of Veneto.

Meanwhile in March, a teenage girl from the Sicilian province of Trapani took her own life after learning how to load a gun on the internet.
