As if the English didn’t feel downtrodden enough about their football team’s trials and tribulations, Italian comedian Rosario Fiorello has come up with a special rendition of the British anthem ‘God Save The Queen’ in light of Italy’s victory on Saturday.

The teasing words in ‘Gol [goal] Save The Queen’ will either make English football fans smile or else plunge them further into the depths of despair.

Either way, before breaking into song in the video below, Fiorello encourages them to look on the bright side, reminding them that the game, which saw England lose 2-1, was only their first match of the tournament and that the World Cup is still up for grabs.

He dedicates the song to Italy’s “English friends”.

If you’d like to sing along, the lyrics are as follows:

Che notte li in Brazil (What a night in Brasil)
Sfidando Italia (Confronting Italy)
Gol save the Queen (Goal Save the Queen)
Prima Marchisio in Gol (First came Marchisio’s goal)
Poi England pareggio (Then England drew)
Sembrava fatto ma (The game seemed done, but...)
Balotelli li purgo (...Balotelli purged them)
