Firefighters were called at 1.30am and sprayed surrounding buildings with water to stop the blaze spreading in the Bavarian city.

The roof of St Martha’s church was destroyed in the fire and collapsed into the interior of the building. The extent of the damage inside will be investigated on Thursday morning.
