The Romanians had planned to purchase two trucks and were carrying a large amount of cash when they were pulled over on Monday by two men in a limousine on Linzer Strasse in Hörsching.

One of the men held a police identification badge through the window, and signaled to the driver to stop.

During the ensuing 'check', the 'official' asked in English about cigarettes and other items.

When the Romanians showed them their money, the 'police' took the cash, claiming they needed to examine it and would return immediately.

The 'policemen' then sped away in the limousine.

The victims waited for some time before contacting police about the scam.

So far the search for the imposters has been unsuccessful.

One of the men is 1.70m tall and muscular, with dark brown, medium length hair. He was wearing blue trousers and a light blue T-shirt. There is no description of his accomplice, who remained in the car.
