Police were called to a family home in Bielefeld, North Rhine-Westphalia, shortly before 7am to reports a man and woman had been killed by several shots to the head.

They found an 83-year-old man and his partner, a 74-year-old woman, dead at the door to a house. Special police units were called who surrounded the home after more shots were heard.

At 1.20pm a second man, believed to be the homeowner and shooter, was found dead in the cellar of the home.

Police said in a statement he was a 75-year-old man who owned the gun legally.

The cause of the shooting is not yet clear, but broadcaster WDR cited police sources stating the background could've been a neighbourhood dispute over parking.

Bild newspaper also quoted a neighbour who said there had been a row for “several months” over parking spaces in a garage between the shooter and his victims.

And police said on Monday that a dispute between the neighhours had been going on for years. In 2011 the shooter accused the 74-year-old woman of piercing his tyres.
