US drugs giant Pfizer has said it was disappointed with Anglo-Swedish pharmaceuticals company AstraZeneca for not only rejecting its takeover bid, but refusing to discuss alternatives.

"Any option you can think of would be an option," Pfizer CFO Frank D'Amelio told the Reuters news agency.

He said he had met with a small number of AstraZeneca heads in London, host to the company's headquarters, and said that Pfizer's offer of £50 a share was "compelling". Reuters reported, however, that analysts thought Pfizer might have to go up to £52 to £55 pounds to get the Anglo-Swedes to bite.

D'Amelio, who said Pfizer was very disappointed at the unwillingness to enter into talks, said he did not rule out a hostile takeover bid on AstraZeneca.
