In court in Helsingborg it was revealed that the victim, 29, received up to 70 messages a day.

He was eventually forced to change his number after the text onslaught with messages ranging from threats to sexual innuendo, reported the Helsingborg Dagbladet newspaper.

The pair are understood to live close to one another and were once friends. However, it was suggested the woman developed an infatuation with the younger man and began pestering him when he called a halt to their friendship.

He said in court that he felt the woman was jealous as he already had a girlfriend.

After changing his phone number the man then starting receiving packages in the post from the woman instead. He said that approximately every third day a new parcel would arrive with different presents for him.

Among the items he received from the woman were handmade jewellery, bowls and even handwritten poetry.

In court the woman admitted sending the text messages and posting the love parcels. However, she claimed her activities didn't constitute criminal behaviour, in particular the sending of presents in the post.

The woman explained her actions saying it was because the man had committed a crime against her. In police interviews the authorities were unable to establish that the man had carried out an offence in relation to the woman.

She was charged by the prosecutor to two counts of harassment and one of sexual harassment and ordered to pay 130 day fines.
