The 33-year-old victim from the village of Marganell is reported to have taken his three dogs for a walk when the tragedy happened.

When a friend noticed he hadn’t returned home after a few hours, he contacted local police in the hope of finding him, online daily 20minutos reported on Wednesday.

During their search, officers found two dogs standing patiently by a well in an area the victim walked through frequently.

A team of firemen, including several exploration divers, were able to retrieve the body of the dog and its master, both of whom had drowned.

Marganell’s 300 villagers are said to be in shock over the tragic event.
