Good Friday will be rainy for those in the southern parts of the country, especially around the foothills of the Alps in the afternoon. Central and eastern regions will see scattered cloud cover and even the occasional flash of lightning.

Temperatures will reach highs between 9C and 15C, but remain cooler along the coast and in hilly areas. Wind will whip up and down the coastline, but feel much calmer inland.

Friday night will remain rainy in the south around the Alps, with a slight chance of snow. The rest of the country will also remain the same as the day prior, with scattered clouds eventually clearing as very early morning arrives. Lows will be between 7C and 2C.

On Saturday thick clouds are set to gather over the south west, bringing a threat of rain and storms. Everywhere else will see the odd cloud and intermittent sunny stretches. The northern states will, state forecaster the DWD said, see the most sunshine.

Highs should be a little warmer than Friday, with temperatures of up to 20C in the north and between 14C and 19C in less sunny states.

Rain will fall on Saturday night in the south west, but the rest of Germany should stay dry.

As Easter Sunday arrives, so will longer periods of sun in the north, east and south east. In the west it will become gradually more cloudy and thundery. It will be warmest in the east with highs of 22C. The west is more likely to see highs of 15C.

Sunday night will be rainy again in the south west with a chance of storm. Otherwise, Germany will see a generally clear night with lows of between 9C and 2C to lead into Easter Monday.
