Experts say now is a good time to follow your dream and buy a house in France. So to help you on your way The Local has put together a list of ten things to seriously think about when buying property in France.

Experts say it's a great time to buy a house in France, with interest rates low and prices having dropped and exchange rates improved, but the process can still be daunting and even if you have the money, you might be put off from doing it.

With the help of various estate agents and expat Jon Lewis, who wrote the book "How We Didn't Buy a House in Besançon" about his experience of purchasing property in France and Patrick Joseph, the man behind the My French House website, The Local has put together a list of ten things you need to think about when buying in France.

Whether it's choosing to avoid estate agents or the question of what kind of property to buy here's ten things you really need to consider before you make that life-changing purchase. 

But as Jon Lewis says: "There's no need to be afraid. The procedure works. It's been documented since the time of Napoleon."
