A Swedish court has sent a man to prison for two months after he threatened "lying" staff at a local newspaper in southern Sweden.

The 49-year-old contacted one of Smålandsposten's reporters last summer and said he would bomb the newsroom if "lies" in the paper did not cease. The newspaper had reported on a local eviction case in a way that the man said was incorrect.

The threats against six reporters in all were reported to the police, whom opened an investigation into the suspect making illegal threats. The 49-year-old has denied the charges brought against him, but Växjö District Court has now found him guilty.

The court ruling said he had issued threats that were not only frightening to the reporters in question, but were also a serious attack of free speech in Sweden.
