While the French are notoriously protective of their sacred tongue, they aren’t so careful with other people’s languages, it seems, most notably English. The Local gathered a list of the some the French’s favourite ‘English’ words that aren’t Anglo at all.

The French language has scores of words that may sound like English, but have little to do with Shakespeare’s language at all, or at least how he might have envisioned them being used

French has tons of words that were minted in France and can be comically confusing for the average expat.

Although these words can sound tantalizingly Anglo, they have either had their meaning stripped and changed, though in some cases the word was completely "Made in France".
