Germany's seven scariest children's stories
From the boy who had his thumbs chopped off, to the youngsters baked alive and fed to chickens, Germany has more than its fair share of scary children’s stories.
The Local List this week looks at the seven scariest and possibly most gruesome tales from German authors for children.
Many come from 19th Century writer Heinrich Hoffmann, who specialized in teaching children a lesson by coming up with the worst of all possible punishments.
And the Brothers Grimm were of course also German, giving the country a plethora of dark and twisted tales.
