Lausanne-area search for man ends in tragedy
Vaud cantonal police have launched an investigation into the suspected suicide of a 20-year-old missing man whose body was found in the woods in the Lausanne region on the weekend.
Searchers found Joël Perdrix late Saturday afternoon in the municipality of Chalet-à-Gobet, police said.
Perdrix went missing from his family home in Epalinges, north of Lausanne, on February 4th.
The youth was described by police as “psychologically fragile”.
He was found in a wooded area northeast of Epalinges.
The prosecutor in charge of the case has ordered an autopsy.
Based on the initial evidence, investigators believe this was a “desperate act”, newspaper 24 heures reported on its website, implying a suicide.
“We have found nothing at the location that would let us think of the intervention of a third person,” Olivier Rochat, cantonal police spokesman told the newspaper.
Perdrix was reportedly seen in café in Poliez-Pittet, a village to the north of his home town, on February 7th.
A search of the region was launched that day, involving friends and acquaintances.
Almost 200 people, including police officers and members of the gendarmerie, combed the surrounding forest on February 9th.
Perdrix’s family had started a blog in a bid to track down the man, concerned that he had been behaving in an untypical way shortly before he disappeared.
“We have no words to describe our anguish,” the blog states on Sunday, after the family received information about the discovery of Perdrix’s body.
It goes on to thank the many people who helped in the search for the young man.
