Palace unveils plans for birth of Madeleine's baby
The Royal Court has revealed what sort of pomp and circumstance is planned for when Princess Madeleine gives birth to Sweden's next royal baby. Social media will play a role as well.
In keeping with tradition when a new member of the royal family is born, Sweden's Marshall of the Realm (Riksmarskalken) will announce the birth to the country's leaders.
Next, the announcement will be posted on the Royal Court website, as well as on its official Facebook page.
The day following the birth, a statement of witness normally occurs, with the newborn being held up for a select group that usually includes the prime minister. However, as the princess and her husband Chris O'Neill have decided that their child will be born in the United States rather than in Sweden, the statement of witness will be conducted in a different fashion to be announced "in connection to the birth", the Royal Court said.
The king will then call a meeting of the Cabinet Council, which all the government ministers are expected to attend. There he will announce the title, name and given name.
Following the birth, a 21-gun salute will take place on Skeppsholmen island in Stockholm. Salutes will also take place in Boden, Härnösand, Karlskrona and Gothenburg.

The birth will also be followed by the “Te Deum”, a type of thanksgiving held in the Royal Chapel.
This is an ancient religious ceremony, and occurs with many major important events in the royal family, such as baptisms, birthdays, and other ceremonial occasions.
The last time a Te Deum was held was on September 15th, 2013, to celebrate King Carl XVI Gustaf's 40 years on the throne.
Princess Madeleine and Chris O'Neill were married in Stockholm on June 8th, 2013. In September, the couple announced they were expecting a child to be born in late February 2014.
As the couple's primary residence is in New York, there was speculation early on in the pregnancy as to where the child would be born. The Royal Court put an end to the guessing in January when it announced the couple planned to have the child in New York.
