Football fan charged for throwing dog at ref
Spanish police have charged a man who threw a dog at a referee during a lower-league game in Almería (southern Spain) with animal abuse and violent conduct.
If you thought all the booing and insults football referees usually have to put up with were bad enough, think again.
One ref at a game being played on February 9th between Andalusian teams Comarca del Mármol and La Cañada had to dodge a flying dog thrown at him by a disgruntled fan.
The ‘animal projectile’ was launched from the stands when the referee was debating one of his decisions with the away team.
Witnesses told Spanish daily El Mundo that the dog flew around seven metres before being left in a state of shock upon hitting the ground.
A former Comarca del Mármol player who was sitting close to the ‘dog thrower’ began punching him as the crowd looked around in disbelief.
The aggressor has been charged with animal abuse and will also have to pay a fine for inciting violence during a sporting event.
