Co-worker suspected in zoo's fatal wolf attack

A colleague of the woman who was mauled to death by wolves at a zoo in central Sweden is now suspected of a crime, police have said.
The woman was killed by a pack of wolves at Kolmården zoo back in June, 2012. The victim of the attack was a zoo employee who was feeding the animals when they unexpectedly surrounded and mauled her. Emergency services who arrived on the scene soon after were unable to approach the woman due to the proximity of the wolves. Police have now announced that another worker at the zoo is suspected of causing another's death due to a breach of workplace safety laws (arbetsmiljöbrott innefattande vållande till annans död), the Expressen newspaper reported on Friday. "We have interrogated a person who is suspected of committing a crime," Anders Wallberg of the Östergötland county police told the paper. "I don't want to get into details about what the person said during interrogation," he said, but added that the suspect was "an individual at the Kolmåden zoo". While the zoo at first called the death a freak occurrence, it came to light in September that another attack had taken place in the same enclosure in 2011, when a lone zookeeper was encircled by wolves during a routine feeding procedure. The keeper managed to hit one of the wolves with a shovel and escaped.
