Coaches on Wednesday decided to drop Finn Hågen Krogh, 23, allowing them to include both double Olympic Champion Petter Northug, who has faced fitness issues, and former sprint world champion Ola Vigen Hattestad in their four-man squad.

The decision follows a recent return to form by former sprint world champion Ola Vigen Hattestad, who won the World Cup in Italy last weekend.

"It was stupid to put me up against Petter," Hattestad told Norwegian media after his victory in Italy.  "I was angry when I found out they had selected three beforehand. They've put themselves in a very difficult situation."

Krogh's father Arild Krogh told TV2 news in Sochi on Thursday that his son was devastated by the news.

"They have destroyed the Olympics for him," he said. "He's probably ten times as disappointed as I am."

Hattestad and Northug will now join Eirik Brandsdal, Anders Gløersen in the country's four-man squad.
