'Missing Marina' murder suspect faces court again

The man suspected of murdering Marina Johansson, who was found dead two years after she went missing, faced court on Thursday after two previous acquittals.
The 40-year-old suspect has already been acquitted of murder charges by a district court and the court of appeals, but as Johansson's body was still missing at the time, the courts ruled that he could not be convicted. On Thursday, the man faced the court of appeals anew for killing Johansson, his ex-girlfriend, whose body was discovered by the volunteer search party organization Missing People in April 2012. Prosecutor Urban Svenkvist showed the court images of the woman's blood-soaked bed, in which he is convinced she was murdered. "He took Marina Johansson's life by shooting her with a pistol when she was in bed," Svenkvist announced. "With the information gathered, I expect a conviction," he told the TT news agency after Thurdsday's hearing. The bloody mattress was discovered by a woman who was cleaning the house while moving in several months after the woman was reported missing. "She found a big pool of blood and contacted the police. She was, of course, very shocked by the find," Svenkvist added. Police had failed to notice the blood while searching the apartment. The 40-year-old suspect still denies having committed any crime, and his lawyer does not believe there is sufficient evidence to convict his client. The trial is expected to continue for seven more days.
