A cyclist riding one of Paris’ famed rental bikes died on Wednesday after being struck by a dump truck.

The 42-year-old woman was riding a Vélib’ in a bike lane around 10 am in the 3rd arrondisement, at Place de la Republique, when she was hit, French daily newspaper Le Parisien reported.

Preliminary investigations suggests she and the truck were headed the same direction when the collision occurred. She may have been caught in the driver’s blind spot at the time of the accident.

Alcohol doesn’t appear to be a factor in the woman’s death with reports that tests carried out on the driver were negative.

The woman is not first person to be kileld riding a Velib in Paris. Between 2007, when the scheme was launched and mid 2012, eight people had died and 66 had been injured.

Other city bike schemes have also been hit by tragedy. In June 2013, a  French woman became the first person to be killed on the London version of the bike scheme known as "Boris bikes".
