Italy's former prime minister Silvio Berlusconi may have fallen from grace after his recent expulsion from parliament, but his pet dog is becoming ever more popular, with a new Facebook page that has attracted over 1,500 fans.

The page was created last week, and is updated regularly with pictures of the poodle, often with his 'Mamma Francesca', Berlusconi's girlfriend Francesca Pascale.

It was only a matter of time before the poodle entered the world of social networking: the Italian weekly, l'Espresso, has been running a blog about Dudù since October and he was recently photographed in the gossip magazine Chi, playing a game of 'fetch' with Berlusconi and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Dudù's Facebook biography says how much he loves his “adoptive parents”, and describes some of his favourite activities, including "gnawing on furniture - mmm what fun!"

The person behind the Facebook page isn't known, but Berlusconi acknowledged it at a book launch, expressing his pride at how many online 'friends' his pet has accumulated. He added that his dog is “like a child – the only difference is he doesn't speak”.
