Three injured as storm blows over buses

Three people were injured near Ålesund on Friday morning when two buses were blown off the road by the hurricane-force winds that have battered Norway's south and west coats since Thursday morning.
"One bus was an airport shuttle, and the other is a normal bus. No one is injured. But we are seeing hurricane-force winds and we are asking people to stay indoors unless they absolutely have to go out," Trygve Ødegård from the Sunnmøre Police told VG newspaper. A passenger at Ålesund's Vigra airport told VG that a plane, operated by the airline Wideroe, had been blown sideways from the runway and crashed into a pylon, although fortunately no passengers were on board. The centre of Stavanger has been closed to traffic since Thursday afternoon, with roof tiles, and other detritus reported to be flying all over the city centre. The entire roof of a housing block blew off in Rogaland, near Stavanger, on Thursday evening, crushing a car parked below. "It is almost unbelievable that no one has been injured," Fran Roland from Rogaland Police District told VG on Friday morning. According to VG, more than 31,000 households across the affected areas are suffering power cuts. John Smit, from Norway's meteorological institute, announced on Thursday night that the worst of the storm had now passed, and that the weather should return to calm by Saturday.
