A 27-year-old man in central Sweden has been cleared of all drugs charges after claiming that the cannabis found in his blood stream was caused by eating a spiked dessert.

The Östersund District Court threw out the narcotics offences after traces of illegal substances were found in the man's blood. He had earlier been stopped by the police on his way home from a dinner party and asked to provide a blood sample after the police suspected he was under the influence of drugs.

When the sample was analyzed it was found there where traces of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the active material of cannabis, in his blood stream.

The man said that he had accidentally ingested the drug when he had eaten a slice of the cannabis-infused dessert, also known as space cake, at a dinner party.

All charges were dropped after the court agreed that the man must have consumed the drugs by mistake.
