A man in southern Sweden has been convicted for uploading naked pictures of his ex-girlfriend to her own Facebook page after she ended the couple's relationship.

The 20-year-old man hacked into his ex-girlfriend's account and uploaded eight nude pictures of her to her Facebook page meaning that any of her friends and family could see them.

Her Facebook profile picture was changed to a picture of her genitals, wrote the local Helsingborgs Dagbladet newspaper, and a further set of naked pictures of her were added to her page. In at least one of the images, the woman was entirely naked and her genitals could be seen.

The victim, who didn't notice the attack until later, was so upset by the incident that she had to undergo therapy. The pictures were online for several hours before they were deleted.

After sabotaging his ex's Facebook page, the man also threatened to upload the images to a large internet forum, although he never followed through.

The Helsingborg District Court wrote that the man acted in a "devious and ugly" manner, and found the man guilty of sexual molestation and aggravated defamation, even though he claimed that it was a friend of his who uploaded the images to the social networking site.

He was fined 6,000 kronor ($914), and told to pay 33,000 kronor ($5,058) in damages to the woman.

The man isn't the first person in Sweden to be convicted in a case of "facerape", a colloquial term applied to cases where someone logs into another person's Facebook account and makes unauthorized changes to their account. In October, two young women were sentenced for hijacking a 17-year-old's Facebook account and posting naked pictures of her.
