Spain's public holidays in 2014: Official list

Spain will have a total of nine fully national public holidays in 2014 with two of those falling on a Saturday. For the full list and more information on regional holidays read on.

The nine public holidays to be celebrated nationwide in 2014 are: January 1st (Wednesday), January 6th (Epiphany, Monday), April 18th (Good Friday), May 1st (Labour Day, Thursday), August 15th (Assumption of Mary, Friday), November 1st (All Saints Day, Saturday), December 6th (Constitution Day, Saturday), December 8th (Immaculate Conception, Monday) and December 25th (Thursday).

Three of Spain's 2014 national public holidays fall during the week and two are to be celebrated on Saturday.

This means at the national level there will only be four so-called 'puentes' or long weekends.

However, Spain's many of Spain's 17 regions as well as individual cities, towns or villages, celebrate their own public holidays.

Castilla-La Mancha

June 19th: Corpus Christi

Castilla Y Leon

October 13rd: Monday after Spanish National Day

Catalonia

June 24th: Saint John

September 11th: Catalonia Regional Day

December 26th: Boxing Day

Valencia

October 9th: Valencian Regional Day

Extremadura

September 8th: Extremadura Regional Day

October 13rd: Monday after Spanish National Day

Galicia

May 17th: Day of Galician Letters

July 25th: Galician Regional Day

Madrid

May 2nd: Community of Madrid Day

May 19th: Corpus Christi

Murcia

June 9th: Murcia Regional Day

Navarra

No more public holidays after April.

Basque Country

October 25th: Basque Country Day (Euskadiko Eguna)

La Rioja

June 9th: La Rioja Regional Day

Ceuta

October 13rd: Monday after Spanish National Day

October 6th: Festival of Easter Sacrifice (DUL-HIY-YA)

Melilla

October 4th: Day of the Sacrifice (Aid El Kebir)
