Sweden unveils hottest Christmas gift of 2013

The hippest Christmas gift of 2013 is set to keep Swedes healthy and full of vitamins during the holiday season, according to a Swedish retail research group's annual "Christmas Gift of the Year" predictions.
"We have focused on the health trend, it has been the one that has been the focus," Carin Bloom, head of HUI Research (formerly the Swedish Retail Institute) said in a statement.
Candidates for Sweden's "Christmas Gift of the Year" (Årets julklapp) must be trendy, a hot seller, and represent the times in which we live.
HUI has identified a growing interest in food in general in which both restaurants and food retailer are thriving. The juice extractor is seen by HUI as part of a DIY trend where people make their own fine coffee, slow cooking and baking bread. 
"It's a product in demand and for which interest has grown considerably over the past year," said Carin Bloom. A juice extractor costs approximately 500 kronor ($75) and up. Headphones were named Christmas present of 2012, due to the mobile trend and the rise of smartphones. But the consumer electronics industry has been experiencing increasingly tough times in Sweden . "The electronics trade has been struggling for a long time, not even the holiday shopping season will be able to save its development." HUI expects record sales this Christmas season. Christmas shopping, covering retail sales in December, is expected to increase by 1.5 percent to 66 billion kronor, almost 7,000 per person. This year it is the 26th consecutive year that HUI has selected a product which is expected to be a big seller in the holiday shopping season.
