The world's largest courier put its prices up for the first time in 15 years in 2013. The move earned it an extra €100 million and it will make similar changes from January 1st 2014.
Sending a normal letter will cost 60 cents, two cents more than the year before – a moved triggered by the huge competition posed by email and pressure to improve profits. Particularly small or large envelopes will stay the same price.
Registered mail will be 20 cents more expensive, as will international packages. Those between one and two kilos will be 17 cents extra. Sending packages inside Germany will cost nine cents more.
Without approval from the Federal Network Agency the move would not have gone ahead. The price increases had to be approved by the government before they could go ahead.
Deutsche Post is the only company in Germany that delivers all types of packages across the entire country. Others, like TNT, specialise in large parcels.
