A mathematics student at Mälardalen University has demanded the central Sweden college repay her tuition, slamming the organizers for low quality of teaching and such poor logistics that students had to sit on the floor.

Sveriges Radio (SR) reported on Wednesday that the American student has told the college to return her tuition fees of 183,000 kronor ($28,000), but a spokesperson for the school said there was no plan to refund her the money.

"Discontent is subjective", the university head of finance Björn Magnusson told SR.

Yet the US student has been backed up in her critique by the Swedish Higher Education Authority (Universitetskanslersämbetet), which criticized the specific mathematics and statistics course as not reaching an appropriate standard. Mälardalen University has campuses in the central Swedish towns of Västeras and Eskilstuna.

The disgruntled student, meanwhile, has explained that the teacher simply handed out some papers and then left, and seemed to speak neither Swedish nor English.

There was also a lack of chairs, forcing some of her classmates to sit on the floor.
