Students reported after teachers' coffee poisoned

Students at a school in central Sweden have been reported to the police for three separate incidents this month, one of which included the suspected poisoning of a teacher's coffee.

"The students in question are all over 18-years of age so they are mature and old enough to know better," school principal Eva Stormgaard told The Local.

The incidents occurred throughout October at the Västerås college of Design and Construction, where several teachers fell ill after a student made coffee and served it to them.

Two were taken to the emergency ward complaining of dry throats immediately after drinking the coffee, samples of which have been sent in for forensic analysis.

Another report was made to police after a step in a staircase was unscrewed, causing another student to fall three metres, and one more when a student started a fire at the school.

Stormgaard blamed the incidents on a small group of students. She told Sveriges Radio that some of them were behaving in a way that was "dangerous" for themselves and others.

She explained that the school was forced to bring in the police as the students were no longer misbehaving, but committing crimes.

"It's clear that we had to make a police report. We certainly can't act like police ourselves at a school," she told SR.
