One of Norway's most experienced weapons inspectors has said that the country should accept any invitation to manage the destruction of Syria's chemical weapons.

Jørn Siljeholm, a former UN weapons inspector who worked in Iraw prior to the invasion in 2003, said that the role was "a matter of prestige".
"We have a high level of expertise and the technology in question here is manageable for Norwegian authorities," he said. "If Norway wants to be a central player in the UN and to contribute more than money, we have here an opportunity to prove ourselves an advocate for issues that Norway believes in."
Norwegian public broadcaster NRK reported on its website on Saturday that the country had been approached by both US and Russian officials to manage the project.
