Swedish police sell poodles on Facebook
Police in Jönköping, southern Sweden, have taken to Facebook to find homes for 28 poodles who were taken into custody after being found in a boarding house with some of the dogs discovered in a battered state.
"There has been great interest in the Facebook page with a lot of likes and comments," said Tommy Thorngren of Jönköping police to the Jönköpings-Posten newspaper.
The appeal to re-home the pooches was made on Friday and in barely 24 hours has received almost 2000 shares and hundreds of likes.
Many of the dogs were found in a poor state when they were discovered at a boarding house. Some were underweight while others had problems with their eyes, ears and teeth.
A decision was taken by the county administrative board to take the dogs into custody for animal welfare reasons. It created a real dog do for the police who were then entrusted with finding new homes for the four-legged friends.
"Dogs for sale and seeking new masters and mistresses who are prepared to put a lot of time and love into some little stray individuals," said the Jönköping police on their Facebook page.
At present the dogs are being cared for at a dog hotel where their condition is regularly inspected by vets. The original 26 dogs has increased to 28 after a bitch gave birth to two puppies which will remain with their mother for the next six weeks.
The dogs, which the police add are not free, range in age from young pups to five years with most being either black or brown along with a solitary white dog.
Since being taken into custody the dogs have been house-trained and are said to be "more social" with each day according to the police.
"Once the media wrote about it there has been a lot of calls and queries about the dogs. There has been tremendous interest so I don't think it will be hard to find new owners," said Bengt Netterström of Jönköping police.
