Malmö parents warned about sex offender

The city of Malmö have issued a warning to parents urging them to be extra careful following a spate of sexual assaults against young children with police believing a serial sex offender is responsible for the recent attacks.

"For example you should avoid letting children walk to and from kindergarten or school," said Peter Lindberg of preschool management with Malmö city to Sydsvenskan.

The warning covers "all of Malmö" but does not apply to any specific kindergarten or school added Lindberg.

"There has been a lot of various information from different preschools for parents. We want to avoid rumours so we are giving the same information to all parents," he said.

Staff working at kindergartens have also been told to exercise added caution and ensure no "unauthorized person" can get in contact with children.

Between September 16th and 26th there were a number of sexual assaults committed against children. Two girls and a boy were attacked on their way home from school in three separate incidents.

Two of the cases have been classified as child rape. Police believe a serial sex offender may be behind the recent attacks.

A 23-year old was previously arrested in connection with the assaults and remains a suspect but "not with some higher degree of suspicion" said district prosecutor Ulrika Rogland.
