Police in Tvedestrand, south of Oslo, nabbed a pair of burglars after following a tip-off received from a clairvoyant shaman in Peru.

The men, 42 and 28, robbed four homes in the town over the summer, taking cash, silverware and valuables worth at least half a million kroner ($80,000).

But they hadn't reckoned on one of the aggrieved home-owners enlisting the aid of the spirit world.  The man contacted a shaman back in his home country, and was given hints as to the location of the goods and also the occupation of the perpetrator, which he then passed to the police.

"We were informed that this information came from a shaman in Peru," chief investigator Morten Tobiassen of the Tvedestrand police, told VG newspaper. "This was the information we were working on before we made out breakthrough in the case, but I do not rule out that it was important for the start."

Bjørn Atle Eide, the local journalist who first uncovered the story, said that he believed that the shaman's information had pinpointed the guilty man.

"When they got the information from the shaman, they immediately thought of one person who was living in the neighbourhood and who had same occupation which the shaman spoke of, and it made sense to them because he had been involved in crimes in the past. When they investigated him, he was the man," he said.
