The 31-year-old bows out having missed all of last season with a dislocated hernia.

Schild takes leave of the slopes with three World Cup podium finishes to her name, her lone victory coming in the super-G at Lake Louise in 2007.

At the Turin Games, she sprang a surprise when beating all bar Austria's Michaela Dorfmeister in the downhill.

Schild is the grand-daughter of Hedy Kaufmann-Schlunegger, winner of the inaugural women's downhill gold medal at the 1948 Olympics staged in St Moritz.
