"The bus was on its way from hotels to the airport with tourists who were leaving the island. Then it drifted onto a roundabout and ended up in a flowerbed,"  Tonje Fossum, the marketing and communications director of Ving Travel told NRK.

Ten of the 33 Norwegians on board have been admitted to hospital, where some are being treated for broken bones, and a further two remain on the island recuperating.

One man on board the bus said that the driver was travelling much too fast.

"He was going about 120 kilometres per hour. I thought that either he had had some kind of seizure or that the brakes had failed.

The Norwegian passenger added that the bus driver leaped out of the bus just before the accident.
