A Stockholm elk found himself in a tangle with a swing set on Monday following a suspected binge on fermented apples.

The commotion kicked off on Monday when a resident of Vätö in the Stockholm archipelago alerted police after finding an elk in the children's playground outside their house.

"He had gotten his horns tangled in the chains and was stuck in the swing set," Ulf Lindgren of the Stockholm police told The Local.

Officers alerted a local hunter, but the elk managed to free himself before the hunter arrived, taking the swing set with him. The swing was eventually found 250 metres from the playground.

But the elk wasn't finished yet.

"The elk actually went back to the garden, I don’t know why, he may have been drunk... but I can't be certain. I have seen drunk elks before but I don't know if this was the case," Lindgren explained.

While drunken elk may not cause as much trouble as drunken Swedes, Lindgren explained that there are indeed some similarities.

"Drunken elks are not that unusual actually, they're quite similar to people drinking alcohol," he told The Local.

Elks have been known to eat fermented fruit and become intoxicated in autumn, often becoming less intimidated and even brazen in their encounters with people.
