Home ad touts 'Swedish origin' neighbours

A Swedish estate agency was left scrambling on Monday after one of its agents published a listing for a home with neighbours of "Swedish origin".

The description was part of a listing for single-family home near Stockholm that was published by Svensk Fastighetsförmedling.

Toward the bottom of the listing, after details about the size and layout of the home, interested buyers could also read an unusual tidbit of information about the surrounding area.

"All the neighbours are of Swedish origin," the description read, according to the Expressen newspaper.

The property listing was on the agency's website for about four hours on Monday before someone inquired as to why information about the neighbours had been included in the ad.

"It was a mistake," the agent admitted to Expressen.

He explained that the description had come from a client and it wasn't meant to be published. However the agent also tried to come to the client's defence, claiming the person "didn't mean any harm but just wanted to be thorough".

When confronted with the incident, a spokeswoman from Svensk Fastighetsförmedling said the agency "totally distances itself" from the "Swedish origin" description.

"It's totally against our values and principles," Svensk Fastighetsförmedling's Bessie Wedholm told Expressen.

The agency promptly pulled the ad from its website and promised to launch an investigation into the matter.
