VIDEO: 'Magnificent' liquid tornado rainbow
A Swedish man made headlines on Wednesday after he managed to film a tornado framed by a rainbow over the Baltic Sea, but admitted with disappointment that the natural phenomenon was "definitely not" a Sharknado.
Lars Lundqvist, a 54-year-old living in Snäck on the north end of the Baltic island of Gotland of Sweden's east coast, woke up to an unusual sight on Wednesday morning.
"I went out on my terrace, which overlooks the Baltic Sea, and took a glance at the weather," he told The Local.
"It was very dramatic out there and I thought I'd take a few stills, but then after 15 minutes I saw a weird, grey pillar and I thought: 'What the hell is that?'"
The pillar was a liquid tornado, also known as a waterspout, zooming around on the Baltic Sea.
"I was surprised, I've never seen one over the sea before. It was impressive, particularly so with that rainbow there. It was great scenery, magnificent really."
When asked about whether the spout brought to mind any images of Sharknado, a recently released film that quickly reached cult status the United States in which a tornado sucks sharks from the ocean only to drop them in Los Angeles.
"I was looking for sharks," he said with a hearty chuckle. "But I didn't see any. I didn't see any flounders or cod either actually. Nothing. I felt very safe."
