The mercury will be rising particularly in the south of the country, in southwest Götaland and southwest Svealand potentially breaking heat records for the summer.

A temperature of 30.8C was recorded in Blekinge, southern Sweden, earlier this summer which remains the warmest day in Sweden in 2013.

Along the Norrland coast it is expected to hit the high end of the twenties, and Stockholm can expect 27C throughout the day. Gothenburg will peak at 30 degrees in the afternoon, with Malmö set for 27C.

According to preliminary forecasts Friday night was the first "tropical night" of the year.

"In monitoring stations in Gothenburg and Vinga the temperature never went below 20 degrees. It may have been more tropical in other places where we don't have monitoring stations," Sofia Söderberg, a meteorologist with SMHI told the TT news agency.
