Norwegian women trail men's political savvy
Despite scoring high in international gender equality comparisons, Norway still has a gap between men and women when it comes to taking an interest in politics.
The survey by Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) showed that women trail men in their knowledge of the political field.
Norway had the biggest gender gap in a cross-country study that compared Australia, Canada, Colombia, Greece, Italy, Japan, South Korea, the UK, and the US, compiled by the University of London.
"Maybe it's still like that because dad reads the paper at the breakfast table while mum's talking to the kids," Labour Party politician Marianne Marthinsen told the NRK network in response.
The low score for Norway surprised the Bergen-based research team
"We actually found the opposite to what we were expecting," said NTNU professor Toril Aalberg, adding that it seemed that countries with the most gender parity had the worst score for men and women taking an equal interest in politics.
