Italian MPs mock MS sufferer
A group of Italian politicians have come under fire after they poked fun at a multiple sclerosis sufferer during a parliament session on Wednesday night.
Matteo Dall’Osso, a Five Star Movement (M5S) MP for Emilia-Romagna, was reading a speech when he hesitated and appeared unable to continue, Italian media reported.
The 35-year-old was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis 16 years ago.
Despite the jeers from counterparts in the Democratic Party (PD) and Civic Choice (SC) party, Dall’Osso vowed to "absolutely" continue with his speech.
Giulia Di Vita, a fellow M5S politician, reminded the politicians of Dall'Osso's “incredible story” and slammed their “shameful” treatment of him.
“We try to work with these people. How can we be surprised by the mess they are making of the country and the constant indifference they show towards Italian citizens weaker than themselves?” said Di Vita on the blog of Beppe Grillo, the M5S leader.
