'Germany will have a fever' by Saturday
Germany is hurtling towards the hottest point of the year this weekend, national weather service the DWD said on Thursday. With highs of nearly 40C, experts are warning everyone to take care.
“On Saturday and Sunday Germany will have a fever,” said Andreas Friedrich, spokesman from the DWD. Temperatures will build over Thursday and Friday, before in places hitting around 39C. Behind the extreme weather is a high pressure system from northern Africa.
After seeing off residual cloud cover from Thursday in the north, the whole of the country will be looking up at blue skies on Friday. Aside from along the Baltic coast and in higher parts of mountainous regions, temperatures will be over 30C. In the Upper Rhine area they will likely hit 35C.

A weather warning has been issued for the entire country for Friday onwards, especially for the densely populated north-western states where strong electrical storms are expected to bear down.
Saturday will reach brand new highs, particularly in the south west where it will be 37C, if not higher. Across the rest of the country, temperatures should rest between 30C and 34C with a pleasant north easterly wind offering slight relief. As evening sets in though, the north west will once more face storms.
With Sunday will come eastern Germany's temperature climax. South eastern Bavaria up to Brandenburg will sweat under highs of 38C. In the far west it could be slightly cooler with highs of 28C.
Along the Baltic cost, where it normally stays cooler, people will be flocking to the beach to enjoy temperatures of 31C. But be sure to head for cover later, said the DWD, as there will be storms across western and central states from the evening onwards.
As the new week starts, so will a more low key weather pattern. Cooler temperatures are expected, as are occasional showers.
