Fredrikstad district court has brought charges against a 48-year-old man suspected of molesting eight underage boys in a series of assaults spanning a decade.

The suspect's youngest victim was 12 years old. The prosecutor's office said on Tuesday that the suspected sexual violations took place from the year 2000 up until 2010. The most serious charge against him regards his assault of two 14-year-old boys.

The NTB news agency reported that police were tipped off about the man from one of his victims last summer. The boy was able to give the names of several other victims, sparking an investigation into the alleged abuse.

The suspect was acquainted with several of his victims' parents in the Fredrikstad area, south of Oslo. Several of the boys reportedly helped him with odd jobs, becoming friendly with the older man before the assaults took place at various locations in Oslo, Ostfold and in a cottage in Trysil.

The suspect does not have a registered home address and is believed to be out of work. His defence lawyer Hans Thomas Revhaug on Tuesday had no comment about the charges filed against his client.
