Thirty-three people have been sent to trial over a gas train explosion in Viareggio, Tuscany, in which 32 people died.

Among them is Mauro Moretti, the CEO of Ferrovie dello Stato, the state-run railways firm. He faces charges of manslaughter and responsibility for causing a rail disaster.
 
One of Italy's worst rail disasters, the accident happened after a freight train carrying liquid gas derailed and caught fire in the railway station of the seaside town on 29th June 2009.
 
The accident is thought to have been caused by a broken axle.
